This listing is for seeds, not live plants.

Seed Source and Germination Record

Harvest: September 2026, northern Guangxi Province, China.
Batch: NBB082609.
Recorded germination: 45%.

The recorded test date is September 20, 2026, using the wet tissue method. Testing took place in Nanning, where temperatures exceeded 30°C. These hot conditions may have suppressed germination. The 45% figure is the observed batch result under those conditions, not a guaranteed minimum or a prediction of a higher result elsewhere.

Seeds are refrigerated at 2°C before dispatch. Germination after delivery depends on storage, temperature, moisture and nursery practice. Follow our Bamboo Seed Germination Guide and review the return and refund policy.

New germination test in progress — started October 1, 2026. The newly added product-gallery photo shows our Moso bamboo seeds arranged on moist tissue for this repeat test. Results are pending. The 45% germination figure above refers to the earlier test in Nanning, not this new test.

Choose a Seed Pack or Discuss Bulk Supply

Available seed packs: 100 seeds, 1,000 seeds, 50 g, 100 g, 500 g and 1,000 g. Prices start at US$3.90 for 100 seeds. Select a packet to see its price. Seeds are packed in plastic or aluminium foil bags.

The separate Phyto Cert option is a phytosanitary certificate service, not a seed pack. Check destination requirements before ordering.

For bulk seed orders, nursery development or plantation support, email Yunnan Bamboo with your country, location, planting area, intended use and required seed quantity. We can discuss availability, site suitability, shipping and documentation.

Support if Seeds Fail to Germinate

A germination and testing guide is included with your order. If the seeds fail to germinate after following our instructions, send photos or videos of your test. After verification, we offer a replacement or refund under our return and refund policy.

Site Suitability and Commercial Growth

Species: Phyllostachys edulis (syn. Phyllostachys pubescens), Moso bamboo.

  • Commercial uses: Timber and edible-shoot production; also used for ornamental planting and screening.
  • Growth habit: Running bamboo with spreading underground rhizomes. Allow space and manage boundaries with a suitable rhizome barrier or regular inspection and rhizome pruning.
  • Size reference: Our species records list mature culms around 10–15 m tall and 6–12 cm in diameter, with large specimens reaching about 20 m and 20 cm under favourable conditions. Plants can remain much smaller in cooler climates; RHS lists 4–8 m under UK conditions. These are reference sizes, not a forecast for seedlings or every site.
  • Cold tolerance: RHS H5 (approximately −15°C to −10°C under UK conditions). This is not a survival guarantee for seedlings or potted plants; protect them from freezing.
  • Growing conditions: Warm-temperate or subtropical climate with seasonal winters; fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil; full sun or partial shade. Avoid prolonged waterlogging and shelter from cold, drying winds.

Based on Yunnan Bamboo’s planting experience, we recommend a winter period below 5°C lasting at least one month each year. Moso is generally unsuitable for tropical lowlands but may suit cooler tropical highlands. Send your location, elevation and typical summer and winter temperatures for site advice.

Fast culm growth does not mean an immediate timber harvest from seed. Seed-grown plants first establish roots and rhizomes, and culm size increases as the grove develops. Commercial yield and establishment time depend on site conditions and management; neither is guaranteed.

Shipping and Ordering

Dispatch begins October 5, 2026. From that date, orders are dispatched from China within 3 working days of receiving payment. Orders paid before October 5 will be dispatched within 3 working days from October 5.

This is the dispatch timeframe, not the delivery time. Delivery generally takes 7–20 days by express or air, depending on destination and customs clearance.

Shipping costs are shown on the order page. Our standard service is EMS; contact us before ordering for DHL, UPS or FedEx quotations. A packing list is provided; a phytosanitary certificate is available at an additional charge. Check your destination’s seed import rules before purchase; permits or other documents may be required.

Germination and Seedling Care

  • Prepare: Rinse 2–3 times, then soak in clean water for 24–36 hours, changing the water every 6–8 hours. Chemical treatment is not compulsory.
  • Sow: For small trials, spread seeds on 3–4 layers of moist tissue in a clean container. Alternatively, sow in a clean, loose, well-drained medium and cover with 0.5–1 cm of fine medium. Do not bury seeds used in the tissue method.
  • Temperature: Maintain 23–28°C. Avoid overheating covered containers.
  • Moisture and air: Keep moist without standing water. A cover helps retain humidity; inspect regularly and provide ventilation. Avoid drying out, waterlogging and stagnant conditions.
  • Timing: First roots may appear within about one week in favourable conditions. Continue observing for approximately 30–40 days, as germination can be uneven and varies by batch and conditions.
  • Potting up: With the tissue method, transfer when 1–2 leaves begin to develop, protecting the roots. For seedlings raised in a medium, transplant at about 5–10 cm tall with 2–3 leaves, retaining the root ball. Usually plant one seedling per pot in fertile sandy loam or a humus-rich potting mix.
  • Aftercare: Provide bright, indirect light, moisture and drainage. Protect from strong sun and gradually acclimatise established plants to stronger light.

Storage after delivery: Sow promptly. If delayed, contact us for batch-specific advice. Refrigeration at 1–6°C can slow viability loss; no fixed storage life is guaranteed.
